Game Description
Despite being on an island surrounded by the expanse of the Mediterranean Sea, fishing has not really been part of our to-do list, not when you have fine clubs and cheap alcohol to hand. So this is about as close as we are going to get. The Angler is a beautiful game and the Betsoft animation graphics are very close to that of Pixar.
Betsoft have made a very good game here that follows the footsteps of their impressive previous collection of Slot3 games, which focus on true 3D cinematic style video slots. The game setting is a misty morning day by the mountain backed lake. The slot grind is packed with colour and detail for all the possible fishing related symbols and nicely framed by pulls and winches. Our angler is Otis, a big, burly built guy that undoubtedly looks like an Uncle we all have, with moustache and hook covered hat, he’ll be helping you catch the Big Prize!
Technical Characteristics
The Angler comes as a 5 reel slot game with 20 pay lines to help net the winnings. The pay lines can be selected from 1 to 20 and the coin stake can go from 0.02 up to 100. You have a Max Bet button as a quicker option to wager higher, along with your Auto Play. Back ground music can be muted along with the sound FX and you can turbo play also, all within the games settings. The spin rotating is smooth and not too long. Otis comes to life and celebrates big wins with a clap or a jump. Winning symbols pop forward into a lovely bubble graphics and displaying the win total in a smoky cloud.
Bonuses and Rewards
During our play of the game we got to witness BetSoft’s incredible animation and bonus features. For the basic game play you have your Octopus wilds. These will appear in the reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 only. During Free Spins they will remain in place during rotation, to build up your bucket of cash. The highest icon for a 5 line win is Otis’s own icon. Five of these will multiply your stake by 1750 the amount. After a standard win you can Double Up with a gamble option, you’ll have the choice to gamble half or all of that win. The game of chance is settled by the flip of a coin, heads or tails?
As a bonus feature you have the Free Spins Scatter! These pearl oyster symbols, when three land on the reels, will activate another animation. The whole slot grind submerges in to the water below and will announce the number of Free Spins you get. It will play out in auto mode, but you can skip and stop the spinning when you like. Once ended, you’ll have your total counted up in big numbers with a bouncing gold ships wheel in the background.
The big catch and main bonus feature is the ‘Time to Fish’ bonus game. Landing 3 of the bonus symbols on reels 1, 2 and 3 will trigger the following event. Otis will ride out in to the lake on his boat and cast his rod out. You’ll be given the choice to Pull or Reel the catch. Beneath this option you’ll have a 3 point marker, one labels missed, the other caught. After making your selection Otis will pull or reel in the fish, but should the line snap, you’ll strike a miss. All three misses ends the game. However three catches will be netting huge winnings.
