Yggdrasil Gaming are becoming legendary software developers, even their name represents mythology and mysticism, so it comes as no surprise that for their new slot they’ve evoked the spirit of dragons, with the idea of mystical fire and ice power in the mix. The popularity of dragons as a theme extends from old school RPG’s and table top gaming but the recent books (and super popular TV series) of George R.R Martin; Game of Thrones in which Dragons have all but died out except for 3 which are controlled by the self styled ‘Mother of Dragons’ Daenerys Targaryen is an obvious influence here. The theme of ice and fire runs heavily throughout the whole GOT story and we suspect Yggdrasil drew some heavy inspiration from here for the design and theme of this new game.
Double Dragons then is an online slot that features dragons (did the title gave it away?), specifically fire and ice dragons. It has a number of special high definition features that players can enjoy such as gorgeous animations and sound courtesy of the boys and girls over at Yggdrasil Gaming plus 2 separate free spins modes and reactor style gameplay on the reels are all present in this new video slot. Technical Characteristics
The graphics and design of Double Dragons certainly nods its head to Game of Thrones but also to popular TCGs like Hearthstone and RPG’s / MMO’s like World of Warcraft, which has definitely had an Lich King/Deathwing type of influence here on this new slot. The reels are framed by iron gildings upon an epic stone plateaux and the symbols are all styled in the same way, with metallic and jewelled card suits replacing the typical slot machines 10-A and different coloured dragon’s eyes as the most valuable symbols.
Double Dragons is played on 5 reels with a maximum of 25 paylines available to players and features a custom UI that blends in with the game itself. This game is certainly feature laden, so let’s start by taking the most obvious and that the reactor style reels called ‘Dropdown Wins’ by Yggdrasil. This feature will drop in 2 stacked wilds that can actually be up to 28 symbols long and will substitute in to complete any available winning lines that are present. A second type of wild which is the dragons head, will convert regular symbols in to wilds also and each dragon that lands multiplies the next reactor win by x2.
Adding extra features to this second wild is done by collecting 9 dragons heads, ice or fire varieties, and this will activate the free spins. You get 5 free spins for each 9 heads collected and can only be stored during the normal game not the bonus round. The free spins round can either be fire or ice related.
